Hello Yellow

8 02 2010

About a year ago, I saw this yellow cashmere sweater at Anthropologie and immediately gravitated to it.  It was pretty and soft and… above $200.  So I had to just put it back down and keep dreaming.

A month later I hit the jackpot.  It was on sale!  The new $40 price tag was totally within my reach.  Plus, I had a gift card.  It was meant to be.

Yellow Cashmere Sweater from Anthropologie; Black Tank Top from Urban Outfitters; Skirt from Old Navy; Dark Gray Tights; Black Ankle Boots from Target

I look a little upset in this pic... I promise I'm not. I'm just trying to stay still. :)

Check Out the March Issue of Glamour

7 02 2010

Last month I was contacted by Glamour Magazine and Weardrobe about the possibility of using one of my photos in the March issue.  I was very surprised!  Of course I said, “Sure!”  Through email, I answered a few questions for them about my personal style.

I didn’t know if they would pick my photo or not, so I just has to be patient.

My wonderful friend Sarah called me yesterday morning and told me that the March issue was finally out (I didn’t even know) and that I should go look at page 142.  And there I am!

Here it is! I know it's just a little picture, but it's a big deal to me. :)

There I am.

Thanks to Weardrobe and Glamour!

What I Might Wear Tomorrow

6 02 2010

There are some girls that can get ready in 10 minutes.  I am jealous of those girls.  It takes me much longer.

So sometimes, to speed up the “getting-ready-process,” I do some wardrobe experiments and try to decide what I am going to wear the next day.

During this experiment, I ended up with this ensemble.  (It’s my $16 Wal-Mart dress from one of my first posts.)

Grey Bow Headband from Forever 21; Heart Locket gifted from my husband; Long Grey Cardigan from Forever 21; Green Dress from Wal-Mart; White Tights; Grey Ankle Boots from Payless

You never know when or where you might find an interesting, inexpensive piece to add to your wardrobe.  I mean, who knew I would find a dress I really liked at Wal-Mart?  Amazing.

The Fashion Factory

2 02 2010

If you ever want to know how to dye pretty much anything, just check out Edie’s Fashion Factory.  Her blog is full of “How-Tos.”

She even gave me some props for successfully taking my dull-purple-jeans to super-purple-jeans.  (Thanks Edie.)

You can read the rest here.  :)  Have fun!

I Heart Valentine’s Day

1 02 2010

Valentine’s day is less than two weeks away.  In honor of the cheesy holiday, here are some of my favorite heart-shaped accessories, all for $14 or less.

Husband, if you read this… feel free to get ideas.  :)

While no one over the age of 7 should be allowed to wear this ridiculous ring… I would totally wear this ring.  As you can see from the photo at the top of my blog, I’ve got a thing for sprinkles.  Always have.  (Pretty sure it has something to do with my love of donuts.)

Sprinkle Heart Ring: $12 @ FredFlare.com

I like these little “antique-ish” heart-shaped earrings.

Hansel Mini Heart Studs: $14 @ FreePeople.com

Always wanted a pair of heart sunglasses…

Sweet Heart Sunglasses: $10 @ UrbanOutfitters.com

Now for something a little more practical… but still sweet.

Heart Measuring Cups: $8.49 @ Target.com

I like these for the simplicity and the very reasonable price.

Hearts Galore Stud Set: $4.80 @ Forever21.com

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Icy

31 01 2010

Yikes!  Is it cold outside or what?!?!  It took me 45 minutes to get all of the ice off of my car.  Seriously!

Here is what I wore in my attempt to say warm…

Pink Sunglasses from Wet Seal; Silver Hair Clip from Forever 21; Coat from Banana Republic (On Sale Years Ago); True Religion Skinny Jeans; White Boots from Urban Outfitters; Yellow Gloves from Target; Scarf from... I can't remember...

Snow Day

30 01 2010

I’m not a fan of cold weather, but this snowfall was beautiful.  The snowflakes were coming down fast and were very fluffy.

I knew I wanted to wear my snow boots.  Other than that, I just threw on whatever I found first, and this was it.  Nothing special, but comfy.  I love this gray hoodie.  I found it on sale a while ago at Old Navy for less than $10.

Black Fedora from Forever 21; Grey Hoodie from Old Navy; Black Shorts from Target; White Tights; Pink Snow Boots from Target

I Looked Like a Dork When I Was a Kid. Your Kids Don’t Have To.

29 01 2010

I don’t have kids, but if I did, I would be very happy about the HTG81 line from F21.  Reasonable prices and cool pieces.  So to any of my readers out there that are parents of kids ages 6 to 14, check it out.

HTG81 @ Forever21.com

I’m kinda jealous of the fashion options that kids have today.  If you look at the photos below, you’ll totally understand why:

Example #1

I caught a fish.  Good for me.  I’m wearing a Looney Toons t-shirt.  Bad for me.  Check out the headband.  Nice.

Example #2

Amazing track suit.  I remember thinking that I looked really cool when I wore this.  And why I am holding a big, scary snake; I do not know.

Example #3

OK, this isn’t super-terrible, but it’s not good.  I do like my Converse though.  I remember them well.  You could wear them as high-tops, or fold them down.

So, if your kids ever complain about their clothes, just show them these pics of me in the 1990s.  They will automatically feel better about themselves.  :)

How Purple is a Lot Like Blue and How I am a Little Like Superman

28 01 2010

It’s surprisingly easy for me to wear purple jeans.  I thought I would have a difficult time incorporating them into many ensembles… but if you think about it… purple isn’t that far from blue… like “blue” jeans… which I wear all the time.  Interesting…

Oh, and I’m very excited because my sister told me that my 5-year-old nephew, Ben, who is an expert on all things “Super Hero” told her that I had “Clark Kent” glasses.  I love that!

Grey T-Shirt from Forever 21; Dark Grey Vest from Forever 21; Purple Skinny Jeans from Wet Seal; Tribal Print Booties gifted from my Mother-In-Law; Layered Necklace from Forever 21; Blue Ring from Forever 21; Ray Ban Reading Glasses

Got these shoes for Christmas. (Thank you Marcie!) Had to show a close up to show the funky print.

How to Make Kind-of-Purple Jeans into Super-Purple Jeans

24 01 2010

These jeans started out a nice shade of purple.  But over time they faded into something between gray and yucky-purple.  I still liked them… but I never wore them… because of the dingy color.

Before: Kind-of-Purple

So, I thought I would try to give them a color boost.  I had nothing to loose.

I picked up some purple Rit Dye for just a few dollars at the supermarket and followed the instructions.

Rit Dye

The next thing I knew, I felt like I had a brand new pair of jeans.

After: Super-Purple

I wonder what else I have in my closet that might just need a little extra color…?
